ROCKY STRIKES GOLD AT PHOENIX

It has been a few months since Phoenix has been on the regular Links schedule, but like Laem Chabang on Thursday, it was well worthwhile the visit. We were given the Mountain and Ocean nines to play which were in very good condition. There were some ominous dark clouds upon arrival but thankfully, what wind there was, was taking the clouds away from us.
It was the closest competition this scribe has encountered with 5 scores of 38 followed by another 2 on 37 points. Leader of the 38 brigade was Rocky Jones. Rocky plays off a handicap of 1 so went round in 1 under par which included a double bogey 6 on the 9th on Mountain. He was followed by 6 handicapper Russell Goldsworthy who just pipped Donal McGuigan and John Coetzee. The unlucky player who also had 38 points but missed out on the countbacks was Jeff Hoy.
