It wasn’t a promising start to the day as heavy rain hit Pattaya about 10 minutes before departure time, and continued non-stop all the way to Burapha Golf Course.

We waited before paying green fees in the hope that the rain would clear. After four people decided not to play, we had 31 players arrive at the A1 tee, just as the rain stopped, and never returned for the whole round. Escaped again!

In the ‘A’ flight, Huw Phillips (a Welshman) kept up the good form of the past couple of months to take the win with a top score of 40 points.

Rarely making errors, and can’t afford to from a #6 handicap, Paul Durkan was right at the top again with 39 points for another second placing.

Lawrie McBride just missed second spot this time, but carried on with his consistent form, scoring a solid 38 points for third place.

Andy Kelleher has found some of that elusive form to score 37 points and grab fourth spot.

In the ‘B’ flight, Derek Phillips (an Irishman) also had 40 points to take the honours in that flight. It was good to welcome Derek back after a long absence from Links.

On his day, Tony Browne can post a score to get him on the podium. This was a good day for him with a handicap equalling 36 points, taking second place.

George Mueller plays a lot of golf and has his ups and downs. Today was an ‘up’ with a good score of 35 points to grab third spot on countback over consistent Mike Tottenham.

The course was in good condition, considering the amount of rain in the hour before we teed off, and everyone was happy to be out there playing after some pessimists had doubts.
