As our twenty seven golfers gathered at the first tee on the โAโ course, the wind was howling from behind. Not quite gale force, but it felt like it, and the temperature about 25 degrees C.
Only because the wind did abate slightly during the back nine, were some able to put together some respectable scores.
Francis Goyons and his good buddy, Jean-Pierre Gasser, have become a popular part of Links Golf during the past couple of weeks and, with their low handicaps, have recorded some good scores.
Today, it was Francis Goyon who took on the windy conditions to come out on top with a very good score of 37 points. We have had a run, recently, of first time Green Jacket wearers and Francis became the latest to achieve that.
Peter Kelly gets around and played a rare game with Links. He showed good form to take second place with a handicap equalling score of 36 points, after winning a countback against Tony Browne, who has struck some good recent form.
Three players had 35 points on their cards, so a three way countback ensued.
Glen Elsworth, freshly back from the U.K won his way to fourth place, followed by George Mueller and then Niall Caven, all doing well in the conditions.
One more place to go and that was won by the aforementioned Jean-Pierre Gasser, winning another countback at the 34 points mark, beating Petur Petursson, who then won the consolation โbest front nineโ for non winners.

The Pattana course is starting to dry out and firm up, although there was the odd mud ball to be found. The rough had been cut back since our previous visit and the greens are still running truly.
With no other groups ahead, our first group, a three ball, finished the round in just over three hours.
Some golf clubs have raised their rates for โhigh seasonโ but maybe more in hope of a โhigh seasonโ than any reality, we shall see.
