RUSSELL COMES OF AGE AT ST ANDREWS AFTER A CHAOTIC START

Credit should go to the management of St Andrews for resolving what was a chaotic start with The Links and another society of equal numbers, milling about at the cart area whilst carts and caddies were found. At the end of the day, our 47 golfers all got away with golfers sharing a cart and many with just one caddy.
As for the golf, the old saying of at first you don’t succeed, try, try again, certainly applied to the runaway Green Jacket winner, Russell Birtwistle. Russell has been with us for just over a year and I don’t think there has been a more popular winner of the coveted Green Jacket. His 41 points was well clear of George Mueller, who won Flight A, and Flight B runner up Neil Smith who both carded 38 points.
